The opening Mass will begin at 5:00 pm (local time) on January 23, in the Great Upper Church of the Basilica. Immediately after, the Holy Hour will be held until 8:00 pm The vigil will conclude with the closing Mass at 8:00 am on January 24, in the Great Upper Church.
The vigil will be televised by EWTN and broadcast live on the Basilica website.
The National Prayer Vigil for Life is held on the eve of the March for Life each January. Thousands of pilgrims from across the country pray for an end to abortion and greater respect for human life.
The vigil is a small part of the Church’s “great prayer for life” and is sponsored by the Pro-Life Secretariat of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, and the Office of the University Ministry of the Catholic University of America.
