Promoter of canonization of Blessed Sister Ana de los Ángeles: You don’t have to be a nun or priest to love God

Mother Rosa Elvira Cáceres Marroquín, promoter of the canonization of the Peruvian Blessed Sister Ana de los Ángeles, assured that “it is not necessary for us to be nuns, priests or priests” to live the “total love of God and souls,” on the day of the festival of the nun who died in 1863.

In an interview with EWTN News, the nun recalled that Sister Ana’s life was marked by suffering since she was little, which made her long for “the hope of this intimate union with God, and I believe that it is a message, together with this special character, which precisely leads her to be fearless in faith, to be brave in order to fight on this spiritual path.”

In addition to making a call to “change our lives,” the cloistered nun stressed that “it is not necessary for us to be nuns, priests or priests. No, where we are, with what we are doing, we can walk the path of total love for God and souls.”

In her opinion, the “greatest miracle” that the blessed can work is that “you understand that in our lives God is the most important thing.”

Mother Rosa Elvira highlighted that Sister Ana de los Ángeles faced difficulties with joy, such as the fact that she had spent ten years sick in bed or that her parents did not want her to be a nun, problems that she faced “with great integrity, with great strength, and with a lot of perseverance.”

A special remodeling of the cell of Sor Ana de los Ángeles

The nun also explained to EWTN News that, on this occasion, “a special remodeling has been done, adjusting it to all the historical data and the spiritual heritage of our Blessed Anne, and the cell has been concentrated in the closest approximation of what It could have been his room.”

In this way, people will be able to “enter these sacred spaces to meditate, to reflect,” to remember the blessed and apply her teachings to their own lives “and listen to that invitation that she makes to us to imitate her life, especially in the great love of God and souls.”

Mother Rosa Elvira also highlighted that this February 2, 2025 marks the 40th anniversary of Blessed Sister Ana de los Ángeles, an event that will be celebrated with a Mass presided over by the Archbishop of Arequipa, Mons. Javier del Río Alba and with an exhibition of relics of the saint and the blessed.

Every January 10, the Catholic Church remembers Blessed Sister Ana de los Ángeles Monteagudo, a Peruvian nun of the Order of Preachers (Dominicans), who, influenced by Saint Catherine of Siena, devoted her life to contemplative prayer within a monastery located in the Andes, in southern Peru.

Sister Ana died on January 10, 1863, at just over eighty years old.

Pope Saint John Paul II beatified her in Arequipa on February 2, 1985 and, among other things, said: “Sister Ana de los Ángeles confirms with her life the apostolic fruitfulness of the contemplative life in the Mystical Body of Christ, which is the Church”.
