Bishops from Italy, France and Spain, as well as members of different brotherhoods, were present at the congress on popular religiosity.
During the closing, Pope Francis reiterated that faith is not a private fact and assured that popular piety can nourish the “constructive citizenship” of Christians, but he also asked that these manifestations aim to lead to an encounter with Christ and not to limited “to external or folkloric aspects.”
During the twelve-hour visit to Corsica, Pope Francis also met with local clergy and members of consecrated life, celebrated a Mass in Austerlitz Square and held a private meeting with the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
