Father Jean Tailleur, elected Auxiliary Bishop of Quebec in Canada, entrusted himself to the Mother of God, having been appointed to this position by Pope Francis this December 12, the day of the Virgin of Guadalupe.
In press conference held this Thursday in the Archdiocese of Quebec, Mons. Juan Carlos Londoño, also Auxiliary Bishop, welcomed the bishop-elect.

“A year ago I was in your place. It was impossible to find the words to express the emotions. God reserved for me, as He does for you today, a beautiful rain of blessings (…) Here I found a new family, like the one I have in Colombia,” said the prelate of Colombian origin, who was appointed by the Holy Father on December 12. December 2023.
In turn, and visibly moved, Tailler highlighted the importance of the Virgin Mary in his life, also today with his episcopal appointment.
“I was ordained at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in 1990. I had the Holy Father’s response after the Mass of the Immaculate Conception and today is the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. (…) I entrust myself to the Virgin to accompany me,” indicated the auxiliary bishop-elect.
“I feel, I don’t know how to express it, the words… it’s like you said Juan Carlos. It all started last night when they told me I was going to have a lot of messages. I thank the bishops of Canada for the letter they gave me, for their welcome despite everything they have to do,” Tailleur added.
The Archbishop of Quebec, Cardinal Gérald Cyprien Lacroix, expressed his joy at the appointment and indicated that Jean Tailleur’s episcopal consecration will be in February 2025, but the day has not yet been defined.
“This Sunday, in a few days, I will preside at the 9:30 Mass in the cathedral to introduce the new bishop to the community. It will be an opportunity to welcome and present the bishop-elect, in the place where he will be consecrated bishop,” said the cardinal.
Who is the new Auxiliary Bishop of Quebec in Canada?
Jean Tailleur is the new Auxiliary Bishop of Canada, who thus joins Bishop Juan Carlos Londoño and Bishop Marc Pelchat, to collaborate with Cardinal Lacroix.
Tailleur was born on November 5, 1963. After studying Philosophy and Theology, he obtained a bachelor’s degree at Laval University in Quebec and then a bachelor’s degree in Canon Law at Saint-Paul University in Ottawa.
He was ordained a priest on November 25, 1990.
Until now, he was vicar general of the Archdiocese of Quebec and moderator of the archiepiscopal curia.
