Below the prayer of the saintwith which the “Sovereign King” can be asked to establish his empire in our own heart:
I adore you, oh Jesus, powerful King!, on this throne of love and mercy. Receive me as your slave and servant, and forgive my repugnance and rebellion to the sovereign dominion you have over my soul.
Ah, benign King! Remember that you could not be truly merciful if you lacked miserable vassals. Extend, I beg you, your liberal hand and remedy my extra indigence with the precious treasure of your holy love, which in the end is nothing other than yourself; stripping myself of all this miserable self-love and all these childish human respects that have me seized and chained.
Come, my Sovereign King!, to break my bonds and free me from this evil servitude and to establish your empire in my heart. I want to reign in yours by ardent charity with my neighbor, not speaking about him but charitably, suffering him, excusing him, doing and wanting for him what I would like done to me, not allowing my tongue to release any offensive or resentful word. Thus there will be nothing that troubles me so that my King may find in me an empire of peace. Amen.
