Cardinal Juan Sandoval Íñiguez, Archbishop Emeritus of Guadalajara, 91, is hospitalized due to complications from dengue.
This was confirmed to ACI Prensa by Father Antonio Gutiérrez Montaño, spokesman for the Archbishopric of Guadalajara, who indicated that the cardinal’s state of health is “stable”, although he has a “high temperature.” Likewise, he asked Catholics to pray for his speedy recovery.

The Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), a health organization, explains on their website that dengue is a viral disease transmitted through the bite of infected mosquitoes.
Among the most common symptoms are high fever, severe pain in the bones, head and eyes, skin rashes and nausea. In severe cases, it can cause bleeding, seizures due to high fever, and severe dehydration.

Who is Mexican Cardinal Juan Sandoval?
Cardinal Juan Sandoval Íñiguez was born on March 28, 1933. He was Archbishop of Guadalajara (Mexico) between 1994 and 2011. He joined the College of Cardinals in November 1994, during the pontificate of Saint John Paul II.
Cardinal Sandoval has stood out for being a firm defender of life, family and the doctrine of the Church. In July of this year and amid rumors that the Vatican could restrict or abolish the traditional Latin Mass, he wrote a letter to Pope Francis begging him not to let that happen.
In October 2023, it was learned that Cardinal Sandoval had been one of the five cardinals who sent some questions (doubtful) to the Holy Father to express his concerns before the start of the first session of the Synod of Synodality.
Cardinal Sandoval also participated in an investigation to clarify the death of his predecessor, Cardinal Juan Jesús Posadas. He rejected the hypothesis that the previous Archbishop had died due to a confrontation between gangs and denounced that it was “a State crime, perpetrated by the Federal Judicial Police.”
