With a ceremony in the Customs Plaza of Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, ONU Turismo announced this Thursday, November 14, the winning towns of the Best Tourism Villages 2024.
This initiative, which had its first edition in 2021, distinguishes the best towns in the world for being considered an example as rural tourism destinations with important cultural and natural assets.
The objective is, in part, to reward the work done in these small towns to preserve and promote the landscapesthe cultural diversitylos values and the culinary traditions.
“With this program, we seek to identify and distinguish those localities that adopt transformative approaches in tourismbased on policies linked to environmental care, community integration, economic and productive development, among other factors that are taken into account at the time of the election,” he posted on X (Twitter) Daniel ScioliSecretary of Tourism, Sports and Environment of Argentina, from Cartagena de Indias.
For this year More than 260 towns from 60 countries presented and among them, eight candidates from Argentina, who were selected by the Undersecretariat of Tourism of the Nation, and a ninth town that entered directly:
So much expectation generated in these months had its fruits for Argentina. Of the candidate towns in Argentina, four were chosen to be part of the world list of “best towns in the world.”
The Argentine towns that won the Best Tourism Villages 2024
Argentina was the first country to take the stage.
And the awarded towns were: Caviahue-Copahue (Neuquen), Gaiman (Chubut), Travellin (Chubut) and Villa Tulumba (Córdoba).

Daniel Scioli and representatives of each of the four winning towns were on stage.
Furthermore, the town Campo Ramonfrom the province of Misiones, was incorporated into the the Upgrade program.
Other award-winning towns in the world were Ralco in Chile, Jardín in Colombia, Ormana in Turkey, Amagi in Japan and San Casciano dei Bagni in Italy. Peru won five awards with its towns Huancaya, Leymebamba, Maras, Quinua and Sibayo. Guatemala, which for the first time has awarded towns, stood out for San Juan del Obispo and Uaxactún.
Once the awards for the best towns in the world were over, the Secretary of Tourism, Sports and Environment, Daniel Scioli, approached the microphone and announced a very special gift for the mayor of Cartagena, host of the event: a T-shirt from the Argentine National Team. .
Which were the 8 Argentine towns nominated for Best Tourism Villages
The following participated in the 2024 competition:
- Barrancas (Jujuy),
- Campo Ramón (Misiones),
- Caviahue-Copahue (Neuquén),
- Gaiman (Chubut),
- Los Chacayes (Mendoza),
- Saldungaray (Buenos Aires),
- Urdinarrain (Entre Ríos),
- Villa Tulumba (Córdoba).
Trevelin (Chubut) also participates, which in 2022 was selected to participate in the Upgrade program. After an improvement process, it was located directly as one more candidate for this year. Evidently, the preparation program paid off.
From the Undersecretariat they clarified that There was a record number of applications this year since 32 towns from 17 provinces presented themselves.
How Argentina fared in previous editions
From the moment the Best Tourism Villages program was launched, Argentina participated with different candidates.
The town of Caspalá, in Jujuy, was among the 2021 winners. In 2022, Trevelin (Chubut) was selected for the Upgrade program.
And in the last edition, 2023, La Carolina, in the province of San Luis, was chosen as one of the Best Tourism Villages.
