Is this truck worth it without its historic V8 engine?

Ram Argentina confirmed that it will present the new generation of its 1500 truck in the summer in our country. This is an important change, since the traditional pickup changes determining aspects of its operation, such as the historic V8 HEMI engine or the new suspension that it now incorporates.

Clarion was able to drive this new generation in its place of origin, more precisely in the pickup capital of the world: Texas. It is the state with the largest number of pickup trucks in the United States and is especially important for Ram, since one of every three units it sells are delivered in the largest state in the North American country.

The Ram 1500 was, in some ways, the first of this new wave of large pickups in our country. In 2013, now as an independent brand from Dodge (a decision that was made in 2009), the brand began to sell its most emblematic model in Argentina.

This allowed it to establish itself in a segment that in the past was the most popular among pickup trucks in the local market but that today occupy an almost high-end position: the full-size They became powerful, comfortable vehicles, with enormous quality and super equipped.

The new Ram will arrive imported from the United States to compete with the renewed Ford F-150, which has just debuted in our market, and the Chevrolet Silverado, which will debut in the country at the beginning of November in its current format.

This new model that will arrive in the country is, specifically, a new generation that had already debuted in 2018 in the US market but had not yet appeared in Argentina. Until now, the variant from Mexico, which corresponds to a previous generation, was still offered here.

Taking advantage of the update of the 2025 edition of the Ram 1500 in the United States, the Argentine subsidiary will present this new generation during its summer actions in La Costa.

The first thing that will attract attention is its new figureespecially in the trunk. The brand leaves that monolithic grill that it offered until now for a more harmonious and integrated front between headlights, grille and bumper.

The first versions that will arrive in the country will have the Laramie equipment level but will have the finish Night Editionmeaning that the grill, mirror casing, door handles and wheels, among other elements, will come painted black. Variants with chrome elements will arrive later.

It will also have automatic electric running boards (they are deployed when the doors are opened and then stored attached to the bodywork) and with the Ramboxcompartments located above the rear fenders and that have a lock.

Inside it maintains its spacious cabin, very comfortable for 5 adult passengers. As a plus, there is the possibility of reclining the rear seats to provide more comfort on long trips.

A new, larger touch screen is housed in the center console, since now 14.5 inches with portrait layout. The instrument panel will also be digital and will replace the analog dials.

The models that arrive in the country will also have a third screen located in front of the passenger, who will be able to see issues related to navigation and will be able to link their own phone to access entertainment options.

In addition, other devices can be connected through an HDMi port to transmit video images. This screen is built with a technology that prevents the driver from seeing from his position.

It will have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and will incorporate an induction charging system for two cell phones, in addition to the different USB ports and power outlet that it includes.

Although the final equipment is not confirmed, the 2025 Ram 1500 will come with a Junction collision detection with autonomous emergency brakingactive lane keeping assist, fatigue detector, evasive maneuver assist and speed limit plate recognition.

In addition, it will have 6 airbags (multi-stage front, front side, and front and rear curtain); hill start assist, four-wheel disc brakes with ABS and EBD; and electronic stability control.

Unlike what had been happening in the last renovations, this time Ram decided to change the heart and emblem of its model 1500. This is the 5.7-liter, 395-horsepower HEMI V8 engine that was present until the previous generation. Strictly speaking, it is a historic change, since the V8 accompanied the Ram 1500 for decades.

Its place was replaced by a motor 3.0 liters and 6 cylinders in linesupercharged by two turbos. With the name of Hurricane 6the numbers show more power: 426 horsepower and 635 Nm of torque (against the 550 of the V8). The gearbox remains the same as before: 8-speed automatic.

The test that we were able to carry out was mainly on the road and the first sensations were very good. The reality is that the propeller pushes very well from below, evenly and without abruptness. The effects of overfeeding do not take long to appear and there it displays all its power.

With the new engine, the 1500 is a more agile truck, with quicker responses and less clumsy. It also promises a small improvement in consumption. What disappeared, logically, is the snore so characteristic of the previous engine: no matter how much they have worked to enhance The sound of the inline 6 is not even close to what the HEMI delivered.

The numbers shown by Ram also support the decision to change the engine: to go from 0 to 100 km/h, with the inline 6, the 1500 only needs 5.3 seconds, crazy for a 2.7-tonne model. . With the V8 I needed about 8 seconds.

The other key addition is the new air suspensionwhich definitely changes the ride of this truck. With this new system, its driving comfort considerably increases, something that was already very good. In addition, it filters imperfections on uneven roads very well.

In turn, the pneumatic suspension allows you to select between 5 possible height levels, offering more options to cross complicated terrain without damaging the vehicle.

Standard ground clearance is 209 mm. lSuspension lowers 15 mm automatically above 100 km/hwith the aim of improving the aerodynamic coefficient. And then there are two off-road heights: 238 mm, which works up to 65 km/h, and 260 mm, up to 40 km/h. There is a height that helps when entering or exiting the vehicle and that also makes it easier to place or remove loads from the box, leaving a free space of 156 mm.

The load capacity is 557 kilos, less than a Rampage, which is approved to carry up to 750 kilos. But it is a vehicle that is valued more for its towing capacity: legally it is capable of pulling 4.5 tons.

The change in the new Ram 1500 that will arrive in our market is big and challenges the history of the model itself. Many fans were already unhappy with the replacement of the V8 engine.
