Due to its history, linked to great tragedies suffered by the city that houses it, the Lord of Wonders or The Christ of Pachacamilla (other of the names that the image has) is strongly linked to the penitential spirit and the call to conversion. The purple color with which its devotees dress and the city and its temples are decorated calls for modesty and a change of life. It is not in vain that the month of October is called “Limeña Lent”, because the month is lived with that liturgical spirit.
The image of the Lord of Miracles was painted in 1651 by an Angolan slave on an adobe wall. On repeated occasions, the holy wall survived earthquakes that almost completely destroyed the city of Lima and the port of Callao (1655, 1687 and 1746). That it had remained standing, intact, when everything around it was destruction has always been considered a miracle.
The repeated portent gave rise to the processional routes that take place every year. In fact, due to the number of people who call for the procession of the Lord of Miracles, it is considered the largest in the world.
Below we share a Novena to ask the Lord for our needs and, in a special way, for those who suffer the attacks of nature or the tragedies caused by man.
