Renault presented the new generation of its historic model 4. The revelation took place within the framework of the opening of the Paris Motor Show. It is a car that originally has a strong relationship with the Argentine middle class and the national industry.
This new vehicle represents part of the brand’s new range, which among its smaller and more accessible models seeks to honor the glories of the past. Previously it was the turn of the model 5 and in a couple of years it will be the turn of the Twingo.
Revealed as a prototype a couple of years ago, in the previous edition of the French show, the R4 now carries the name E-Tech, which indicates its status as 100% electric vehicle.
Let us remember that in Argentina the French brand today has three examples that belong to that family of vehicles: Kwid, Megane and Kangoo. Although it has not been confirmed, Clarion was able to know that the possibility of bring this new generation to the local market.
At the moment, it is the presentation that generated the most expectations at the Paris Motor Show, also due to the strong relationship that this model has with French society.
What is the new Renault 4 like?
The new Renault model appears to be a little larger than the 5, the other small and electric model that the brand sells in Europe. Below both will be the new generation of the Twingo, which should appear in 2026.
The original shapes of the R4 were reinterpreted and gave the brand’s designers the opportunity to give it an adventurous lookclose to that of a compact SUV.
With more than 4.1 meters long, the new Renault model surprises with a good wheelbase of more than 2.6 meters, which allows it to offer a good interior habitability and ample cargo space: 420 liters. It is these two aspects that differentiate it greatly from the R5, beyond the styles.
New Renault 4: modern and digital.There will initially be two power levels, 120 and 150 horsepower. Despite their adventurous appearance, all will be, at least for now, front-wheel drive.
The difference is also in the battery, since there will be options of 40 kWh (for the less powerful version) and 52 kWh, providing autonomy levels of 300 and 400 kilometers respectively.

These characteristics allowed it to be a success around the world. During its 32 years of production 8,135,424 units were soldand had a presence in more than 100 countries; among them Argentina, where it was manufactured between 1963 and 1987.
The Renault 4 was the second model of the rhombus produced at the Santa Isabel plant in Córdoba, after the Dauphine-Gordini. In addition to the passenger version, its range included van versions and even a pickup.
The Renault 4 was a success in Europe and Argentina.The 4L had an engine Ventoux with four cylinders and a displacement of 845 cm3 that delivered a 33.5 horsepower and it was associated with a three-speed gearbox (the 4-speed one would later be incorporated) with the selector located in the middle of the on-board panel.
In 1964, the work version was presented, which could transport up to 460 kilos of cargo in the rear sector, a surprising capacity considering that its total weight was 694 kilos.
A particularity of the model is that throughout its life, the Renault 4 maintained the design that gave such good results. To stay current it was only updated with some not very deep aesthetic touches.
