Designo Patagonia celebrated its 20 years with a book

The book of I design Patagonia It addresses the identity question right from the title. “Something has to be done with this. A chronicle of design from the periphery” It comes from almost the ends of the world in paper book, anniversary book, limited edition book format.

“We are presenting 20 years of work in Patagonia and recounting the journey we took. There is a lot of experience, but there are also anecdotes,” he describes Manuel Rapoportpartner with Martin Sabattini by Designo Patagonia.

Its edition was possible thanks to a National Endowment for the Arts scholarship and, therefore, the presentation on September 23 took place at the Casa Victoria Ocampo, headquarters of the FNA.

“In all this time, we were maturing and reflecting on the design in Argentina but more than anything in the periphery of the world. In the book we review some objects but also we count the kitchenthat is, how those objects are thought about,” Rapoport continues.

“Manu and Martín called me to help them write their story. They didn’t want a very formal book or a cold text based only on professional matters. They didn’t want watertight compartments either, so It turned out to be a non-fiction book.“, he points out Guadalupe Wallwho was in charge of writing the story.

Muro remembers a first challenge that he gave them: to make a timeline with study and personal milestones. “That was the first clue to knowing that it was going to be a very mixed writing. And that presented the challenge of talking about certain things without naming them. For that, we made text do instead of text say. It was like playing neither yes nor no nor black nor white”.

They started work in May 2021. “It took us almost six months to write the first sentence. It was a time when we did an almost anthropological work, a community mapping“, it needs.

Thanks to the Creation Scholarship of the FNA were able to materialize all that work. “It is an edition of 300 copies, designed to reach people we love and leave our thoughts for those who want to follow the path. You can also buy it through our Instagram,” adds Rapoport.

“The book has a tone very friendly and intimate. It is pleasant even for those who know nothing about the subject or belong to the world of design,” adds Muro, who read some fragments in the presentation.

Wustavo Quiroga He also participated in the event with Muro and Rapoport. He emphasized the federal nature of the design and the territorial work of the studio. “I feel that It is a philosophical book. “He talks about design, but first he talks about life and ways of living.”
