Mansory Pugnator or the art of turning a Ferrari into a true monstrosity

The Ferrari Purosangue, presented a couple of years ago, became the first SUV from the Italian sports car brand. Its appearance, inevitable due to current market trends, caused a stir among automotive purists. Although not as much as the new edition from an Iranian preparer.

Founded by Iranian trainer Kourosh Mansory in 1989, the company began with modifications to super luxury brand modelscomo Rolls Royce, Bentley, Aston Martin y Ferrari.

Mansory is located in the German town of Brand and boasts of “production at the highest technical level combined with masterful craftsmanship and the most precious materials: this is the quality standard of the corporation.”

It also adds that “harmoniously designed aerodynamic programs, ultra-lightweight aluminum wheels and powerful improvements in engine performance are the basis of the technology program.” But from what can be seen in the images, they would be missing a strong dose of good taste.

The Ferrari Purosangue, one of the fastest SUVs in the world, was officially presented in September 2022 and its appearance was quite an event, which meant that the Italian brand opened a window in its rich history of sports cars to offer a model of this type.

It didn’t take long for the commercial results proved him rightsince after a few months it was even on the verge of stopping taking orders due to the strong initial demand. In between, he had to deal with a small NGO for the rights to the name.

Two years after its appearance, it is a complete success: in the period from January to August of this year, and without counting a decisive region such as the Middle East markets, 1,500 units of the Purosangue have already been sold. And this is going to catapult Ferrari to a new annual sales record.

Part of that success, beyond what is generated by the shield with a yellow background and the prancing horseis due to the approach taken with this model. Ferrari adopted a completely different layout and innovative proportions compared to other SUVs, where the engine and transmission box are mounted on the front axle.

The Maranello house maintains that this configuration usually implies a less optimal weight distribution that provides dynamics and driving pleasure that are further away from its standards.

That’s why he decided to mount the propeller 725 horsepower V12 at the front and the eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox at the rear to create a sporty transaxle layout, with all-wheel drive system and a 49:51 weight distribution, which Maranello engineers consider “optimal for a sports car with front mid-engine”.

Even the shapes of the Purosangue, despite having unknown proportions for a Ferrari, were attractive and harmonious, which are also responsible for its success.

Until Mansory appeared. The works of the Iranian preparer have the style that can be seen in the Pugnator: a figure overloaded with aerodynamic elements that ruin the harmony of any model involved. But in the case of the Ferrari SUV, they reached a level hitherto unknown.

The Purosangue’s fine, sculpted lines were desecrated with a wider body kit, speckled carbon fiber mouldings, spoilers, deflectors and a huge rear wing that quickly gave it the nickname “Repugnator”.

The rear sector appears absolutely overloaded by a bulky bumpers and unnecessary and grotesque air channelsin addition to modifying the horizontal arrangement of the two double exhaust outlets to bring them to a vertical position.

Inside it is no less extravagant. A micro-perforated white coating with red details dominates. But the covering is total, that is, there is also that white background on the floor and the interior carpets. It doesn’t take a genius to know how long that can last in that pristine state.

Mansory plans to manufacture only seven unitsbut it doesn’t say how much each one costs. And you will surely find buyers for this particular model. The surprising thing is that you will surely pay much more than the $420,000 that a Purosangue costs.
