Pope Francis recalled that the saints are the ones who will “really save society”, when receiving a delegation of young people from the “Francisco Economy” initiative, which since 2019 has been working towards a different world economy, based on the Doctrine. Social of the Church.
“The world of economics needs a change. It will not only be changed by those who are ministers or Nobel laureates or great economists – all beautiful things –, they will change it above all by loving it, in the light of God, putting in it the values and the force of good, with the evangelical spirit of Francis of Assisi,” the Holy Father told those attending the audience held today in the vatican.

“It is not the great or the powerful who changes the world for the better: it is love that is the first and greatest factor of change. An economist of holy life, Blessed Giuseppe Toniolo, wrote that who will really change society ‘He will not be a diplomat, a scholar, a hero, but a saint, even more, a society of saints.”, highlighted Pope Francis.
After highlighting the importance of concern for the poorest, the Pontiff reflected on three aspects to change the world: being a witness, not being afraid and waiting without getting tired.
“If they want other young people to approach the economy with their ideals (…) it will be their life testimony that attracts them. Be consistent – coherence is something that is not fashionable – in your options,” the Pope highlighted on the first aspect.
In relation to the second, Pope Francis encouraged the young people present, as he told the participants of the World Youth Day in Lisbon 2023, to “not be administrators of fears, but entrepreneurs of dreams.”
“It makes me sick to see those Christians who hide in the sacristies because they are afraid of the world. These are not Christians, they are defeated ‘retirees’, they are not Christians,” he added.
Regarding the third aspect, waiting without getting tired, Pope Francis recognized that it is not easy, but he encouraged young people to have courage. “If you are faithful to your calling, your life will flourish, you will have wonderful stories to tell your children and grandchildren.”
To conclude, the Pope said: “I see that there are some children: this is beautiful in a culture in which it is favored to have dogs or cats and not children. We have to remind Italy a little! Believe me: it is worth spending your life to make a better world. Forward!”.
