Every September 14, the day of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, the novena begins to Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, Padre Pio (1887-1968) Capuchin Franciscan priest who received the stigmata of Christ and whose life was a reflection of life same of the Lord, constantly tested, subjected to suffering and pain; but precisely for that reason, capable of freeing us from everything bad to be new men, as in Him all things have become new.
Padre Pio – born Francesco Forgione, on May 25, 1887 – received the name ‘Pio’ upon entering the Order of the Minor Capuchin Brothers (Franciscans), in Pietrelcina, Campania (Italy). He was an Italian Capuchin friar and priest famous for his miraculous gifts and for the stigmata that appeared on his hands, feet, and side. God called him to his presence in Apulia, San Giovanni Rotondo; on September 23, 1968. He was beatified in 1999 and canonized in 2002 by Pope Saint John Paul II.
