Vatican Observatory will present a report with unpublished reflections on eternity

“Eternity between space and time” is the title of the conference organized by the Vatican Observatory in which “unpublished reflections” on eternity studied from different disciplines will be presented.

The University of Padua (Italy), together with Specola Vatican, have investigated eternity towards new scientific perspectives thanks to 24 contributions from some of the world’s greatest scholars in different disciplines such as physics, psychology, philosophy and theology.

Among them are Nobel laureates Gerard’t Hooft and Roger Penrose, who are joined by Federico Faggin, Mauro D’Ariano, Gabriele Veneziano, Massimo Cacciari, Giulio Goggi and Kurt Appel.

Questions about God and consciousness are addressed along with quantum theory, black holes, cosmic inflation, the Big Bang and string theory, considering the contributions of neuroscience and artificial intelligence.

The essay, which will be announced on September 6, is the result of the international conference on the topic of eternity held in May 2022 within the framework of the Master in “Studies on death and the end of life.” from the University of Padua.

This conference was attended by the world’s leading scholars in the fields of Physics, Philosophy, Theology and Psychology.

The presentation of the final report will take place at the headquarters of the General Curia of the Society of Jesus in Rome and will be attended by Father Gabriele Gionti, member of the Research Group of the Vatican Observatory; Fabio Scardigli, Milan Polytechnic; Ines Testoni, from the University of Padua; and Fr. Andrea Toniolo, from the Faculty of Theology of Triveneto, Padua, Italy.
