As a second remedy, he indicates being “careful not to accept any consolation in your prayer and contemplation, except that which comes from the perfect knowledge and deep feeling of your humility and imperfection,” because otherwise one could fall into the ambition of one’s own honor, believing oneself that one is worthy “of the glory and praise of this life, or of paradise.”
The third remedy is to reject “with horror” any supposedly special feeling or vision that could lead to doubt or create an opinion against the truths of faith, good customs, humility and honesty.
As a fourth remedy, Saint Vincent Ferrer suggests not following the example of people who may seem holy and educated, but whose advice is not in accordance with God and the “true discretion” that Christ and the saints lived.
