The cardinal emphasizes that the true prayer goes beyond repeating memorized formulas: “Indeed to pray our heart and not simply recite sentences.”
How to apply it: Dedicate 5 minutes daily to talk to God as you would with a close friend, sincerely sharing your worries and joys in your own words.
2. Recognize your weaknesses without fear
Aguiar Retes reminds us that recognizing our limitations is the first step to experience divine mercy: “If we recognize our sins, our weaknesses, our limitations, we come to the Lord of life, and he not only forgives us, he gives us life.”
How to apply it: Make a brief examination of conscience every night, honestly recognizing your faults and giving them to the mercy of God.
3. Look for God especially in difficult times
The cardinal reminds us that God “where there is no life, promotes life; where death is, overcome it and get ahead.”
How to apply it: Identify a difficult situation in your life and consciously seeks God’s presence in it, trusting that He can even transform the most adverse circumstances.
4. Practice forgiveness as a path of intimacy with Christ
“If we want to see a very clear path we can learn to be in intimacy with Christ, it is the forgiveness that gives life,” says the cardinal.
How to apply it: Choose a person who you need to forgive and pray for it, taking a specific step towards reconciliation as a Christian love act.
5. cultivates unwavering confidence in divine mercy
The cardinal invites us to fully trust: “Let us have full confidence in the infinite mercy of God, the God of life … It doesn’t matter, we must get up, because God is always willing to forgive.”
How to apply it: When you fall, get up immediately repeating “I trust your mercy, Lord”, remembering that God is always willing to give you a new opportunity.
