A decisive year for the country’s political future

In this context, the Episcopal Conference of Honduras (CEH) He issued a statement in which he expressed concern about the elections: “He is not in whom he wins or loses the elections, but in the socio -political course that will be given to the country.”

“We say it with all simplicity and frankness: our greatest interest is in the poor. In the many poor, in the new poor people who arise from current economic instability and the persistent reasons for structural poverty, ”said the bishops.

Therefore, they urged the population to go to the polls with civic sense and responsibility, “looking for the greatest possible for everyone, especially for the poor.”

THE BEST POLICY: UNIT, Dialogue and Common Good

In their message, the bishops pointed out that the “best policy” is made by the “virtuous and worthy politicians; They can make possible a new effective reality of social love, breaking the vicious circle of the perennial crisis of a honduran society broken, unbalanced and without equity. ”

For this reason, they urged the population to reject the “rhetoric that divides, the hate discourse that provokes intolerance and violence, radicalization and polarization” that some candidate can promote. Instead, they emphasized the need to foster a “broad social dialogue, as a contribution to peace, and offer one’s own contribution to society and the State, in view of a healthy, robust and lasting democracy.”

“The culture of respect and reciprocity are characteristic of political maturity and must shine in these next elections, to ensure the country better times, because conflicts are overcome with communication, which fosters the virtuous cultural habit of fraternity and unity ”Adds the message.

Finally, the bishops called for prayer and urged candidates to prioritize the “common good, stable peace of the Honduran nation and the enjoyment of social rights.”
