Also present are presbyters Osman Jose Amador Guillen, Julio Ricardo Norori Jimenez, Jose Ivan Centeno III, Yessner Cipriano Pineda Meneses, Alvaro Jose Toledo Amador and Pastor Eugenio Rodriguez Benavidez, all from the Diocese of Estelí.
The group of priests is completed by Cristóbal Reynaldo Gadea Velásquez, from the Diocese of Jinotega; and Ramón Angulo Reyes, from the Diocese of Bluefields.
In the persecution against the Catholic Church, the regime has closed universities such as the UCA, which was administered by the Jesuits, it has expelled nuns such as the Missionaries of Charity, it has closed aid institutions such as Cáritas, it has imprisoned priests and lay people; among many other attacks.
One of the figures who has been the target of this persecution is Mons. Rolando Álvarez, Bishop of Matagalpa, who since August 4, 2022 was prevented from leaving his house by the Nicaraguan authorities. Furthermore, since February of this year, he has been unjustly imprisoned.
